Presentation Times (approx)

Take place approx. 30min after the 3rd place male/female runners finish. We generally have sponsor prizes as part of our presentation process and these are only awarded if you are present during the presentation ceremony. All podium places receive a trophy.


Please note that nothing is sent to runners in the post.  Race Bibs must be collected on race morning at registration.  An "Info Pack" will be emailed to all competitors in the week leading up to the race. Often as late as Thursday to cover late changes.  This will also be available on the "INFO PACK" tab on the race web page. In most cases the info pack from previous years contains all relevant information.



(Q) Do finishers receive a medal or certificate?

(A) Yes, ALL finishers receive a custom designed medal.

if we run out on race day new medals will be ordered and posted


(Q) Do I need trail shoes?

(A) No, road runners are perfectly fine for the Urban Park Trails - though RocBloc is highly recommended.


(Q) Should I carry water?

(A) There will be enough water and sports drink available at aid stations.

PLEASE NOTE WE ARE GOING CUP FREE AS OF 2018, reusable, collapsable, silicone cups are available to purchase at events for $2 plain or $2.50 if branded, 4 colour options


(Q) Is there a refund for pulling out of event?

(A) Yes, but please refer to refund policy details, there are time limits.


(Q) Is there an age limit to competing in the event?

(A) Yes, runners must be 16 to compete in the 21K (with parent approval), and 18 for the 42K & over events. Approvals for younger runners to compete in longer events can be discussed with the race director.  Shorter distances are open to all ages.


(Q) Can I set up my own shelter or marquee?

(A) No, marquees and structures require permits, and fees are payable.  Trailsplus pays for a permit that allows ONLY official Trailsplus marquees to be setup.


(Q) Is there plenty of Parking?

(A) Yes, there is ample parking along Alexandra Ave.


(Q) Does this event support a charity?

(A) Yes, ALL of the Trailsplus events support CanTeen - young people living with cancer.


(Q) Will there be electronic timing?

(A) Yes, chip timing is used.  Please see notes regarding positioning of race bib.


(Q) Are iPods or other music devices allowed to be warn?

(A) for safety reasons we highly recommend NO iPods be worn.  It is important that all competitors can hear direction from race officials and other Tan users. Please leave music home for this event for your own safety.


(Q) Are EFTPOS facilities available?

(A) YES, cash and EFTPOS are available on race day.  We prefer you Use the online registration system to register for the race and to purchase merchandise using your credit card before race day.


Event Distances 

This race consists of six events, the 4km  12km  21km  42km   50km  100km.


On Course Support and Aid

There will be 1 AID STATION located at the start/finish area.  When available we have short massage sessions, this is limited to our supporters availability.



For the safety of all participants, please notify the race director, registration staff or timing staff of your intention to withdraw from the event. We need to know if you are not completing your full distance so we can mark you off and not be looking for you later in the day



All events of this nature carry elements of risk, it is the responsibility of all participants to conduct themselves in a safe manner and if required help other participants if injured or in need of assistance. Conditions can vary quickly with the most likely problem being exposure to the weather. All participants should have suitable clothing as the conditions are likely to be cool and wet at times.



If a participant becomes injured or incapacitated, other participants MUST assist them until other help arrives.



No rubbish to be left on the course. Please place all items, no matter how small, in pockets for depositing in bins at aid stations or around the Tan track in Bins provided.
To ensure the ongoing support of City of Melbourne and Parks Victoria, ensure you leave NO RUBBISH on the course.


Public and Other PARK USERS

The ability to continue holding the Tan Trail Run very much depends on how we, as users, conduct ourselves on the course. It is highly likely that you will come across many obstacles including runners and walkers. Please be respectful and make your way around them as they have equal rights to the public park. There will be dogs on long leads too and we understand it can be frustrating, but it is imperative that we do not say or do anything that could bring about a complaint from the public. Thank you for your understanding and co-operation.



Participants should note that public liability insurance exists for this event. However it does not cover individual medical or accident costs. This remains the responsibility of the individual.  It is highly recommended that your ambulance cover is up to date. By entering the event you agree to relinquish all claims against the event organiser and support people.


Electronic Timing

The race organisers are using an electronic timing system.  To ensure accurate detection of your number make sure your race bib is located on your front so we can see it to cross reference, please do not obstruct the bib with your arms when crossing the finish line, or by carrying a child as often is the case and the child blocks the bib from reading your time.


Course Notes

The Tan race is simple to navigate since it follows the running/walking track.  You should have no issues with this.


Car Parking

Car parking is available along Alexandra Ave, and around the Botanic Gardens precinct.  Please take note of any restrictions in order to avoid parking fines.



Refunds are available up to 30 days prior to entries closing. Your refund will be  transferred to credited to your card that you paid with, less a 50% admininstration fee.
There are no refunds within 30 days of event.



During Trailsplus events we may take photos and some video. This information may be made available for publication on websites or paper media. By participating, you acknowledge and give permission for any images and commentary to be used by Trailsplus and/or their partners.



Participants will encounter dogs on the track out for their daily walk. With this in mind we do permit dogs to join you for your walk/jog, however strict rules do apply. The owner must be well behaved. The dog must not assist the owner and for this reason runners with dogs will be excluded from podium positions. It is the exception that dogs run and if reports of runners dogs causing issues are received, the runner will be asked to stop running with their dog or be disqualified.


By participating, the competitor declares

  • to be trained, fit and injury free.
  • to present no risk to themselves or others by participating in this event
  • if they become unwell or injured they will withdraw from the event
  • they acknowledge that distance and trail running carries risks including weather, trip hazards, hydration, hyperthermia and rough surfaces and that they are aware of these risks, along with others, and take full responsibility for their own actions
  • if during the event they feel unwell they will withdraw and seek medical attention
  • they understand and acknowledge the risks and waive all claims against all parties involved in organising the event



Due to the nature, location and weather conditions often present at trail running events, forces outside the control of the event organisers and land owners may force the event to be cancelled or postponed. Cancellation could be as late as the morning of the event or possibly during the event if conditions dictate such action. If the event is cancelled before the event the race organisers will work with the authorities to try and reschedule the event. If a date can not be suitably found the event will be deemed cancelled for that calendar year. NO REFUNDS will be issued for late cancellation or postponement of event.
